Tips for getting your home market and viewing ready

Presenting your home ready for photography or a viewing is very important and can make or break the beginning of marketing or first impressions from buyers.

It doesn’t have to be stressful however, or exhaustive.  We have put together some simple tips when it comes to decluttering and presenting your home in the best possible way. You don’t have to do everything on this list but it may help you to check off items, so you’re market ready!

GENERAL

•      Clean whole house, including your windows

•      Ensure all bulbs in ceiling lights and table lamps are working

•      Open blinds/window treatments to let in outside light

•      Remove personal photographs (or replace with general landscape/object photographs)

•      Make all beds

•      Remove small floor rugs to reveal actual flooring

•      Place all shoes/jackets in cupboards

•      Put out fresh flowers

•      Set the dining table or add a centrepiece

EXTERIOR

•  Close garage doors

•  Remove cars from driveway and front of home

•  Clean up landscaping (mow, trim shrubs, clear leaves)

•  Remove any children’s toys/sports equipment

•  Tidy up/clean outdoor furniture

•  Remove refuse bins

KITCHEN

•  Clear countertops completely as much as possible

•  Clear outside of refrigerator of magnets, papers, photos, etc.

•  Remove dishes from sink, place in dishwasher

•  Make sure your kitchen bin is clean and tidy

LIVING SPACES

•  Remove stacks of magazines, papers, mail, etc.

•  De-clutter fireplace mantel/hearth

•  Clean interior of fireplace, top up logs etc

•  Plump up your cushions

•  Remove children toys

BEDROOMS

•  Make bed, including decorative pillows

•  Clear bedside tables of all personal items

•  Store away phone/tablet charging cables

BATHROOMS

•  Clear countertops as much as possible

•  Put toilets seats down

•  Scale down your shampoo and toiletries in the shower/bath

•  Remove used towels and replace with fresh

•  Remove floor mats

PETS

•  Tidy food and water bowls

•  Tidy pet beds

•  Use lint roller on furniture to remove pet hairs

•  Take your pets out during viewings

•  Hide pet crates

•  Clear garden/outdoors of pet waste and toys
